Misconceptions & Contraindications of Seaweed (Nori)

Misconception 1: Seaweed = Kelp / Seaweed

Wrong! Nori is red algae (Porphyra). Kelp and wakame are brown algae. They are completely different species.

Misconception 2: The more seaweed you eat, the better

People with hyperthyroidism or thyroid nodules must strictly control iodine intake to avoid excess.Flavored seaweed is not recommended for infants under 1 year old.

Misconception 3: Moist seaweed is spoiled

Moisture is only water absorption. It can be made crispy again if there is no off‑flavor.It is spoiled only if it has sour taste, rancid smell, or mold spots.

Contraindicated Groups

People with high blood pressure, kidney disease, iodine allergy, and infants (flavored seaweed) should eat with caution or avoid.
